Well, this feels odd. It's been so long since I've posted a fully-fledged journal entry that didn't amount to "hey guys is LJ still here?".

Maybe the fact that I was hospitalized for a kidney stone two weeks ago ("Hurts worse than being in labor!", a female co-worker said) has made me reflect on things a bit? Who knows. I'm fine now, by the way. I think so, anyway! No more pain at least.

It's also possible that my upcoming move from here in Connecticut to my homeworld of California has something to do with it. It's something that's been a long time coming, something that should've happened a long time ago, something that will make a part of me "right" again. Although a lot of work is involved, I do look forward to it.

Let's see... obviously, in terms of nerdy personal interests, nothing much has changed for me. I'm still all RPG RPG RPG with the occasional other type of game thrown in. So long as it's cute, I'm willing to give it a whirl.

I guess the biggest change in that department is that I now have a "gaming-class" PC, so I've begun to experiment with those kinds of games. While I've always been a console gamer, I can definitely see the advantages of gaming on a PC. "Advantages" meaning "being able to mod L4D2 to play as a cute anime girl", naturally.

But it always ends up this way in the end. My focus right now is just replaying SaGa Frontier for the bajillionth time for no real reason whatsoever. Well it IS the 15th anniversary of the game this summer, but I didn't know that when I began! Maybe I just needed a good "comfort food" game in my schedule or something.

Well, Twitter/Tumblr is still going on about the Oh-limp-icks or something so I suppose I'll go distract myself with a DS game for the time being. I'll post more soon, promise!

In the most unsurprising turn of events ever, the url is http://slimequest.dreamwidth.org/

I'll try crossposting from there (I think I have it figured out) so my eljay will still have SOME kind of use! So yeah, feel free to add me there if you wish. It might be nice to have a place to organize thoughts or just ramble about stuff after all.

Sooo....

Where does everyone go now that they don't use Livejournal anymore? Is it Dreamwidth? Is that the popular thing now? I feel so lost.

It's not so much that I even feel the need to post journal entries anymore (do you REALLY need to hear about how I got to level 30 in some random RPG or whatever), but I feel like I've lost touch with many of my friends from here and THAT'S A CRIME.

I'll still keep this account around, to comment with if nothing else, but yeah. Probably not going to be posting anymore, not like I was lately anyway!

I just remembered how cool all my LJ friends are.

UPDATE 2K12: I'm kind of poor right now but that's led me to appreciate the videogames I already own, as well as Touhou games/spinoffs. Now that I have an actual ~decent PC~ I can delve into all sorts of emulation and gaming that I've never had a chance to before, as well! I still watch ponies because yay they're good, and I'm sort of trying to keep up with recent anime but have a huge backlog of that, too.

I should probably pursue further education but I really want to move back out to California first, since I realize that hey guess what, I really love it there.

My life is genuinely boring enough to not even warrant posting random things here, but I rather prefer it that way, you know?

Gonna just use this avatar forever for every possible entry anyway mwahaha~

I ended up deleting my Facebook today since I never used it and putting Rainbow Dash as my profile pic didn't stir up the shock and horror I was expecting it to (nobody noticed apparently).

I also deleted my Google+ account since people with MLP avatars would literally add me to their circles daily and it was actually more convenient to just get rid of the whole thing rather than sort through it all. I'm sure they were (mostly) nice people, I just never used it to begin with anyway!

Consolidating your online life is very satisfying.

I'm going to hang on to my tumblr only because of the cool pictures I find and because I've discovered tumblr savior. I'm sure I will eventually become convinced to leave that place too though!

But el jay, I could never delete you. I spent actual money on you at some point.

I guess I should talk about video games now so here goes: I've actually grown used to the way original DS games look on my 3DS and the convenience of just carrying around one handheld has trumped in the end. I'm really looking forward to getting more "in-depth" games for this thing. I should probably pick up Devil Survivor Overclocked if I see it on sale, and RE: Revelations' demo was really neat.

Gonna casually avoid the Vita until it drops heavily in price and that remake of Ys IV comes out for it, thereby forcing me to get one, though. At least from what I've seen, original PSP games actually look BETTER on it (whyyyy can't we have this for the 3DS) but seriously screw the entire concept of UMD transfer fees.

Oh hi, El Jay, what's the haps?

I'm still alive, by the way. Had a wonderful birthday on the 21st (I got to wear a sombrero) and a wonderful Xmas on the 25th (significantly less sombreros on this one). I literally got some of the same presents that [livejournal.com profile] krile's 8-year-old cousin got. I am mature.

I still come by and read entries from you all every now and then, rest assured! I just haven't had much I've wanted to compose into a meaningful, well-thought-out entry lately (note: I have never composed such a thing here).

You can find me more often on Twitter, and "Kamiwoo" is an applicable name on Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam for me. I also have those instant messenger thingies listed in my profile here! I miss those of you I haven't been in contact with~

SO ANYWAY HOW IS EVERYONE DOING
slimequest: (Tonight - YOU)
Sure I might use Twitter like a madman instead of posting here most of the time, but I still love you. My sweet, innocent LJ.

Did you know the new season of My Little Pony starts at 9AM EST tomorrow? If you have children, have them watch it. If you don't, watch it anyway. I know I will be.

I had a wonderful time in California and I'm going to move there with Krile and marry her and have like 3 kids or cats or bonsai trees or something like that.

That about sums it up, other than me waiting patiently for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 to come out on the 19th so I can indulge in my time-honored tradition of having a good slime~

I think I'm sick of all my icons and need to make new ones, but anyway~

I'm going to be in California for a week starting on Wednesday! It's kind of a short-notice thing, in the sense that I didn't know if I'd be able to get time off work and stuff like that. Which is a shame because I have lots of supercool online friends in California, but I don't expect them to drop everything without warning just to come see little ol' me :3

It's okay though, because this is all part of my evil plans to get the family to move back there, where my heart and soul truly belong. Once that happens, we can all have video game and anime orgies far into the night!

(No offense, East Coast, you are totally cool and all and have lots of other neat friends of mine there, but I'm a Cal-i-forn-ia Boy till I die~)

I'll have internet access at the hotel, and my portable gaming systems with me so... err, other than the time zone change, I guess things won't actually be THAT different, come to think of it.

Vacation goals: acquire millions of streetpasses on 3DS, nostalgia the FUCK out of everything, and eat In-N-Out burger for (nearly) every meal.
slimequest: (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Welp, I have a 3DS now. It's pretty neat.

If you have any questions you'd like an actual, flesh-and-blood 3DS owner to answer, COME AT ME!

In which I discuss spiffy-looking graphics, how original DS titles fare on the 3DS, downloadable stuff, and more. So much more. )
slimequest: (mff mphh mghfhfhh)
I've been both lazy, busy with other things, and slacking off lately, and I won't even mention LJ's lack of working lately (oops I just did). But anyway~

I'm probably going to post the ROM of Live A Live over at Save Point tomorrow, along with reasons why you should totally play it. Like, for example, cowboy and cavemen chapters. And giant robot parodies. And so much more.

On the personal gaming front, I'm actually playing a Western game (!!!). Literally and figuratively. Namely, Fallout: New Vegas. It sort of randomly got sent to me from Goozex and I had forgotten I even put it on my requests, but hey... (essentially) free game.

Not gonna lie, the character designs and creation are ugly as hell, for the most part. Regardless, the whole "wandering around aimlessly in the desert" is something I've actually done in real life, so I'm definitely digging that aspect. The nonlinearity and general ability to fuck around randomly is very refreshing.

I'm also playing as a lady named "Applejack", with a cowboy hat and a penchant for bartering. That might just be the actual reason I'm playing.

In other news, I should really finish up my Dragon Quest primer. While it's still in the 25th anniversary year, preferably. I hate the whole "gathering up multimedia" part, oddly enough. The writing's easy.

Hard to believe that exactly a week ago I was at our local Hartford-based anime con, Connecticon. It's sort of a dinky little thing that proclaims itself "everything and the kitchen sink", not JUST anime. Of course, all I care about are the anime/video game aspects of it, but it usually manages to pull through for me regardless.

I've felt like it's kind of gone downhill the past couple of years, but then again I never attend panels or watch any of the anime provided there, so I'm pretty much basing this entirely on the dealer's room offerings. I had to actually scour long and hard to find things to blow money on, and that's pretty bad. Still, I saw a lot of AWESOME cosplay so I wasn't disappointed or anything. But I do feel like we need to "step up our game" next year, perhaps attending Anime Boston or some other larger-scale con.

Cosplay photos under the cut )

Anyway, I'll have [livejournal.com profile] krile snap some pics of a few of the goodies we picked up while there, but we're both recovering from "con flu" at the moment, so it might be a few days. Yes, we both got lots of hugs! I guess dressing up as tragic magical girls and/or lots of rainbows will have that effect on people, especially in that environment.

Thieving this meme from my bro [livejournal.com profile] ansemaru

Name a fandom and I'll give you some unpopular opinions about it.

I should note that probably all of my opinions are unpopular so this will just be me rambling about things. I think most of my interests are on my userinfo page, although I don't list a lot of anime on there for some reason. Not enough room, really.

Whoops

I realize I haven't updated my own journal in quite a while, and even then, the last entry was just some meme spam thing...

Anyway! Been keeping busy with my usual. I've been watching a lot more anime recently, actually, which is just so terrible productive-sounding. Currently plowing through Gintama like a boss (and enjoying every minute, naturally!) and trying to finish off some older, backlogged titles at the same time. I guess the only "current" series I'm keeping up with are Sket Dance, Nichijou, and C. Which are all pretty darn interesting in their own ways.

Game-wise, the PSN coming back has actually been giving me quite a bit to do. I've been getting pretty good at Arcana Heart 3, which is a first because ordinarily I just skim over the surface of fighting games and never really try all that hard with them. As a nice counterbalance, the new Wizardry game for PS3 has been satisfying my dungeon-crawling needs quite nicely. I really should get back into Etrian Odyssey III after this, too...

Oh, and Terranigma is both "recapturing my lost childhood by playing this game I was robbed of back then" and "playing a really good game" at the same time, which is always a winner.

Real-life wise... uh, I got nothin', sorry. Still stuck at my "not having anything to do with my education" job, but it's really not all that bad. Just glad to have one, really. Considering I lack any kind of ambition whatsoever, it'll remain to see what I actually do with myself from here on out. I'm pretty much ridiculously happy other than wanting slightly more money, so maybe I should just count my blessings?

Oh, and I started reading Homestuck (finally). Just got done with Act 1. How ashamed should I be that I've seen all these movies displayed on those posters, unironically, when they first came out?

Okay guys and gals, I've got our summer rom-playing community set up:

[livejournal.com profile] save_point We're going to save these games from total obscurity and point them out to those who never got to play them! It's so deep and multifaceted. It's not that this really obvious name just so happened to be available or anything

Not much to see at the moment, but I figured my FL deserved to get first dibs on joining, if nothing else. We'll be discussing details and all that as June approaches.

Feel free to join us, even if you didn't participate in any of my previous posts about this! I'd love to have a variety of people playing along to help keep things lively and interesting. Remember, it's going to be all about kicking back and having fun, no pressure involved other than hopefully having a good time together.

(Seriously, I'll be providing the prepatched roms and everything, it'll be free AND painless)

My shiny new iPad 2 arrived on Monday, so you only get one guess as to what I've been up to the last couple of days. Long story short, it's my new "main computer", and although before I got it I wondered whether something like this could actually do what I needed it to do, so far I've been pleasantly surprised.

All I really do is browse sites and occasionally post things like this anyway, and for that it works perfectly. The touch keyboard is very impressive and I can always use a Bluetooth one if I need those physical keys. It's actually surprisingly easy to type using international keyboards, too, which is also something I need.

Anyway, if anyone was considering getting one or had any questions about them, I'd be more than happy to provide my 2-day-old expertise on the subject. Oh, and app suggestions would also be welcomed, since I'm still new at the whole iOS thing in general.

Of course, I couldn't go very long without getting a nice game to play on it, so I ended up buying the new iPad version of Final Fantasy III. In short, it's amazing. The graphics are much improved from the DS version, and especially since the DS had touchscreen controls already, it's really easy to play. I kind of wanted an excuse to replay it, anyway...

Lookin' good there, Warriors of Light.

Oh, and I'll probably have our little gaming community set up here at LJ around the beginning of May or so! Stay tuned~

Taking advantage of owning Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and all that it offers, I decided to try out "that one Phantasy Star I've never played", also known as the original one.

You get to play as a female protagonist in a dystopian, 8-bit future. Unique enough yet? )
