Hard to believe that exactly a week ago I was at our local Hartford-based anime con, Connecticon. It's sort of a dinky little thing that proclaims itself "everything and the kitchen sink", not JUST anime. Of course, all I care about are the anime/video game aspects of it, but it usually manages to pull through for me regardless.
I've felt like it's kind of gone downhill the past couple of years, but then again I never attend panels or watch any of the anime provided there, so I'm pretty much basing this entirely on the dealer's room offerings. I had to actually scour long and hard to find things to blow money on, and that's pretty bad. Still, I saw a lot of AWESOME cosplay so I wasn't disappointed or anything. But I do feel like we need to "step up our game" next year, perhaps attending Anime Boston or some other larger-scale con.
I've uploaded some pictures of cosplay and the like here, but note that a vast, VAST majority of these pictures were not taken by me. I pretty much scoured other people's galleries and chose a few to share here, because I'm usually both too shy and too distracted to remember to take people's pics myself. Still, I did personally see all these cosplayers for the most part, so... yeah. Same difference?
Of particular note are those last three photos you'll see! The lovely Sayaka from Madoka there is
krile herself, and she was quite popular! Apparently there were three Mamis hanging around (the one pictured had her friend as Charlotte somewhere, too), but no other Madoka characters. We pretty much stopped every 5 minutes for someone to take her picture (and she was loving this). And the dude in the rainbows posing with the hero from Dragon Quest VIII? C'mon, do I even have to say it? I'm a little sad that particular picture came out blurry, but I'm happy to have posed with him nonetheless.
Anyway, I'll have
krile snap some pics of a few of the goodies we picked up while there, but we're both recovering from "con flu" at the moment, so it might be a few days. Yes, we both got lots of hugs! I guess dressing up as tragic magical girls and/or lots of rainbows will have that effect on people, especially in that environment.

Date: 2011-07-17 04:55 am (UTC)Anime Detour (Minneapolis)- 6 years
Kakkoi Con (Minneapolis, summer con, full of fail and didn't come back for a second year)- 1 year
Otakon (Baltimore)- last year (and again in two weekends)
The point of my tally is that I have seen a DQ cosplayer MAYBE once. You're so lucky to have found a Hero! *sniffles*
ALSO: Holy crow, your fiancee makes a fucking adorable Sayaka. I'm pretty picky about my cosplay standards (although I appreciate anyone who actually looks like they put in effort) and I love it. Also, don't you love how you can go to a con wearing anything and fit right in? Your rainbows and blue hi-tops made you prime con-wanderer material.

Date: 2011-07-17 05:22 am (UTC)And... I know, right? She's very happy with it as well, and it's definitely something she'd be picky about too! She appreciates your compliment :3
I got some attention myself, but I'm not sure if people realized I was supposed to be a (male, humanized) Rainbow Dash, but hey, it was fun to wear regardless! It all started with those hi tops, though. I bought those for myself and I was like "welllll I already have this RD shirt that's basically the same color..." and threw something together last-minute. I plan to add in some wings and junk eventually, if I go as her again. But I should really cosplay as someone from DQ, come to think of it!

Date: 2011-07-26 09:57 pm (UTC)...but I'm not sure what to say about those Pony cosplayer girls....but the one before that one was really cute D: this almost makes me miss going to a con-- it's been years.
Oh, and was that a Poptart Nyan cat or I imagined it? ... or a Toast Cat for that matter >_>
Big huggles for you and Krikri!! <333

Date: 2011-07-30 09:23 pm (UTC)And yes, I'm more than aware what draws in the fangirls, so I use this to my advantage, muahaha~
I saw some really nice pony cosplayers, among so many other things! Cons are always a blast, even if sometimes it's a headache and overwhelming at the same time XD
*hug* Hope you're doing well! Haven't heard from you much lately ;D

Date: 2011-08-06 04:10 am (UTC)I've been doing really well :) I guess instead of journaling on LJ instead I've been writing on my Pasucalina Journal I brought from Chile. XD; I have to get back into the habit of online journal writing.
:D but I'm always checking up on you and Krikri. Nothing much going on on my end...except staying inside the house because of this horrible Texas heat x__x; will it ever end?
