The automatic payment reminder bot made me realize that I haven't posted in almost a month, so...

Anyway, I'm currently writing a research paper on atomic bombs/nuclear radiation as featured in B-movies of the 50s and 60s, and of course I'm featuring MST3K'd movies every chance I get. I have to say, this is the only project I've ever worked on that I've...

A. Not slacked off on (this thing isn't due for two weeks and I'm almost done), and
B. Actually enjoyed doing

So yeah it's awesome :D

P.S. Now with having seen the Rifftrax of Titanic, Twilight, and Harry Potter, I feel like I've completed some kind of unholy trinity, especially since I hadn't seen any of these movies prior. I guess the films themselves aren't as bad as I thought, it's just the fans who made me think they'd be.

P.P.S. Okay so I guess Edward stalking Bella and watching her sleep is creepy as hell, but at least when Kevin riffed "What was our math homework?" during that scene I got to laugh about it.

I'M SEEING WHAT YOU'RE DOING HERE. But damn, it's fun and cool. So I'm indulging, even if it's a guilty one.

~SUDDEN SEPHIROTH SLOT MACHINE~

Oh yeah and I got beat up by loli Yuffie or something.

Ughhh I'm not supposed to be up this early, time to finish this semester once and for all~!
slimequest: (*adjusts ARGH*)
Okay I'm done with the bibliography on my Aztec essay. Damn, there's NO making bibliographies fun, even if there's ritualized human sacrifice involved.

Anyway, the end of the semester is coming soon enough, so that'll be a relief.

THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED:

- Managed to hear my Japanese teacher say "oppai" when she was pulling up the shirt of a girl in my class, and explaining how to say it, first in the more polite form and then the "what everyone REALLY says" way. Knowing porn terms and trying to act like you don't: awkwardness.

- Got Crisis Core for PSP for... $9. Amazon LIGHTNING DEAL. So I heard it's pretty good or whatever, Zack is......... someone, I forget, and Aeris looks kinda cute in this game. So yeah. I'll get around to playing it this summer.

- Made a diorama of an aforementioned Aztec human sacrifice ritual for class... out of Legos. Here's what I didn't know: girls love Legos. They were crowding around me like I had a box full of chocolate-covered yaoi kitten shoes. Anyway, hopefully I score creativity points at least. Maybe I should take a picture of it before I dismantle it.

Now I'm going to go home and sleep or something. Oh and P.S. the HUGE GIANT NAKED RAGUNA PORTRAIT in Rune Factory: Frontier seriously scared me but I couldn't not look, okay. It takes effort to be all toned and have your nipples sanded off, gotta give respect.

Phew, finals are over with! It still seems odd that it's over for now, but I'm not about to complain. I'm looking forward to having fun and doing lots of things over the summer.

Speaking of which, I just got back last night from a road trip with my dad to go see my little brother's graduation. Although obviously my little bro was the main point of it all, it was great to have the whole family (myself, dad, and two younger brothers) together again to have some fun like old times again. I actually didn't get much of a chance to play DS or anything (!!!) because we were too busy doing other stuff.

Of course, I missed home and my girl and my games, obviously. I think [livejournal.com profile] krile mentioned it in her journal, but we finally beat Wild Arms 3~! And of course that same day we popped WA5 in and began to play it. It's really good; quite addicting, actually. And the cast is quirky and hilarious as was WA3's, but in different ways. I think that's one aspect of Wild Arms games I like the most.

I also downloaded Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King for the Wii. It's sort of an odd mix of Sim City and Soul Blazer/Dark Cloud. Basically you play the shota king who can't go out and fight, so you hire adventurers from your town to go explore and beat up monsters. Meanwhile you have to build houses and other buildings and make sure everyone's happy. The fact that you get to run around as the king and actually speak to your townspeople makes it a lot more fun than some top-down view kind of a thing. It's probably about as interesting to watch someone play it as Sim City would be, but it's pretty addicting if you're the one playing it. There's also downloadable content like new dungeons and outfits and races and things like that to keep things spiced up.

Aaaanyway, despite the fact that I have to work the day after getting back from my trip, I plan to take it easy for a couple weeks now that school is out, maybe catch up on my gaming and go to some fun places. I really do want to keep up with my Spanish/Japanese practice during the summer though, because going back in the fall having not used it for months would kind of suck. Yeah.
slimequest: (Tactical Tie)
Okay so Amazon.com had Advance Wars: Days of Ruin as their deal of the day last week, for some absurdly low amount of money, so I went ahead and got it. It was sort of low on my radar of games I'd like to try but I really couldn't pass this up, especially considering it was cheaper than a greatest hits title.

And hey SPOILERS it's fun. I've only played the first GBA Advance Wars game for like 5 minutes prior to this, but I actually like the fact that it's a strategy game but NOT a strategy RPG. I have about a million of those to play if I so desired, so this is a nice change.

The gameplay is the highlight, obviously, although WACKY TACTICAL TIPS SHOW which includes bosses walking in and giving you advice for some reason, and the female characters trying on makeup and threatening to dye the male lead's hair until he runs away. So yeah, good times!

ANYWAY, despite the fact that this should get in the way of me playing other various games I need to beat, it hasn't!

Wild Arms 3: BAM BAM BAM the dungeons fall left and right! I am pretty close to the end now, I think.

I've also been playing FES whenever I can, although it being on HARD MODE makes me die every so often and this is not good. But, Elizabeth dating sequences are the best things ever so I persevere!

Despite all this gaming, I have my Japanese oral final on Tuesday and the written final the next week, joy! And something about Spanish, it's easy peasy stuff really. But seriously, I want to strangle whoever invented the subjunctive tense. PORQUEEEEEE~~~

And now, I think I'll finish up this battle in Advance Wars and get some studying done, if the kind customers at my job will permit it.
slimequest: (*jab jab*)
So apparently I've been chosen to receive an award for "outstanding work" from the Spanish department of my college! I guess I'm doing something right. I really enjoy studying Spanish and my teachers are all awesome so doing well just kind of comes naturally with that.

Ironically, I'll probably be studying Japanese the whole weekend, but that's because I have a quiz! And it's harder! I think compared to Japanese, Spanish seems so easy that I don't take it as seriously, but I really do love both <3

ANYWAY, I have the weekend all to myself as [livejournal.com profile] krile is having some mother/daughter girly weekend away, doing who knows what. I probably shouldn't dare ask. This leaves me time to have a little "me" time. (read: play Metroid Prime 3 in my underwear)

Although I have DS games to play, I've been distracted by SNES ROMs lately. Most notably Arcana, a lovely little dungeon crawler with *gasp* a story, some interesting characters, and good music.

Rooks likes traps! Also Axs is dying.

I like Rooks' design for some reason, he's sort of the epitome of 90's badass RPG hero. With a hat.

I leave you now with everyone's favorite, USA vs Japan boxart differences! Scary shampoo commercial fortune teller lady vs kawaii anime magical wonderland.

slimequest: (Wore myself out~)
The hotel is extremely slow this time of year, so by virtue of this I've been able to get the studying and essays for my final week of school done while getting paid for it, yeah, I'm that good 8-)

The essay I have to write for Spanish Literature class is about this story where some domineering mother won't let her five daughters leave the house, so when one of them gets engaged to THE ONLY MAN THEY EVER EVEN GET TO SEE they all fight over him and masturbate to his photo and listen to each other have sex with him. This essay is going to write itself <3;;;

I also was able to fiddle around and finally install custom firmware onto [livejournal.com profile] krile's PSP Slim. Did I mention it's a shiny pink one? Amount of weird looks I got at work while I was messing with it: 4? 5? The case is also pink, by the way.

Looking forward to having it all over with this semester so I can enjoy the holidays AND MY BIRTHDAY WHICH IS ON FRIDAY THE 21ST JUST FYI NOT TRYING TO REMIND ANYONE OR ANYTHING and presents. No, I'm not going to strikethrough that part, seriously, give me presents, that's what I want.

Oh and I'm kind of sick of snow already this year, and we get more tonight! I'm sorry but the adorable green VW Beetle I get the privilege of driving does not do well in ice aged conditions.
slimequest: (OTP <3)
Dragon Quest Swords for the Wii has finally been announced for a US release, on February 26th. Yay.

SEXY WII TIME COMES AT LAST.

Now, back to wallowing in fear of finals until they're over! :D
slimequest: (Obvious puns ahoy!)
The 3rd of this month marks six years that [livejournal.com profile] krile and I have known each other.

Of course we decided to celebrate a little, and get each other gifts!

What did we give each other, you ask? I thought everyone knew that the 6th anniversary was the Megaman Anniversary!

Yes, we bought copies of Megaman Star Force for each other. I got Dragon version (because, you know, RAAR DRAGINS) and she got Pegasus (pretty wings!!1)

Nobody likes the Leo version, because... I mean, just think about it. Doesn't it automatically sound like the lamest version?

But anyway, yes, we decided on a whim to do this for who knows what reason. We kept talking about how there's ANOTHER Megaman series coming out? Forget THAT. And yet... here we are. We're such whores for Megaman games. Perhaps once we get a chance to play it more I'll post some wackyness about it.

It might sound like the most anti-romantic thing ever, but hey... we play the game together and help each other out! I'm reminded of how lucky I am because I was talking to some guy at school and he was complaining about how his girlfriend made fun of him for playing video games and has no interest in them, and yet mine encourages it and plays along with me! I guess it's easy to forget that there are girls like that when you happen to hang around a lot of gamer girls.

Speaking of which, school started for me finally on the 4th. I'm sooo rusty in my Japanese verbs T_T Most of what I learned and studied over the summer was vocab, so... but at least my Spanish is in top form 8-) Having no A/C in the modern languages building (oh ALL my classes happen to be there? Yay!) doesn't help matters, either. I'll start babbling in languages I don't even know if my brain melts~

Dammit people, that's my video game money. At least I get to re-use my Japanese textbook from last semester. We'll probably open that workbook 3 times the whole class, too.

Still, I can't wait to get back to school, sadly enough. What can I say, when you're at the point in time when you can take the classes you're actually interested in, school takes on a whole new meaning.

.. then again, if I could just play Persona 3 and go to school in the game instead, that'd be pretty cool too.
slimequest: (Too cool for the afterlife)
School is done for the semester! This is an awesome thing.

My finals were pretty easy, although in my Spanish class what we did was sit in a circle (yes, a circle) and the teacher just went around the room asking us random culture and grammar questions from the book. I was dumb and suddenly forgot the preterit conjugation for decir and translated it as dar among other things, but no one in the class was taking it seriously and the teacher gave us all good grades anyway so whatever XD I totally gave an awesome explanation of the legend of Quetzalcóatl, though~ (plus I could actually pronounce it)

So now I get to go visit family in North Carolina this Friday, and afterwards, off to Disney World~! A nice two-week vacation. I'll get in some good portable gaming on the plane and stuff for sure.

Until then I'm focused on playing .hack G.U. Vol 2, or the "Alkaid likes Haseo awkwardly show"! And... cleaning and packing and stuff. Actually I'm going to sit back in my boxers, sip some orange juice, and play some DS right now. Yay for time off ♥
slimequest: (Too cool for the afterlife)
And it was freezing and it ended up snowing! At least I made it home in one piece. I keep forgetting to wear my scarf though, dammit.

So now we're finally getting into Katakana in Japanese this semester. Which is good because now I can actually write my name, among other things. Plus a lot of video game character names are in Katakana so it helps me when I search Japanese sites.

No completely annoying Otaku in my class, so far as I can tell. They're mostly weeded out the first semester when they realize the class doesn't involve discussing Naruto episodes. BELIEVE IT.

(It's not that I have any problem with someone choosing to pursue an education in something because of a hobby, in fact I think it's great that a person would be motivated to better themselves from something like that. Heck, I'm studying it partly because of my love of Japanese video games, plus I like some animes and Japanese music. But when the walking talking stereotype of an Otaku girl sits down in your class and immediately confesses that they're studying Japanese because they think Inuyasha is cool, it makes me want to distance myself from that kind of person. Literally, because they don't shower. How can you love kawaii neko anime bishies but not deodorant? Do you think magical girls don't use deodorant? Is there not any room in your Naruto bag for makeup? You and the guy with a ponytail who sits behind you look almost identical, and he is not the one at fault here. Oh god, I will not miss you at all, Inuyasha girl.)

My Spanish class is pretty cool too because I have a lot of the same classmates as last semester, but OH GOD IT'S SO LONG. From 5:15 to 8 PM. We get a 15 minute break, but still. I'm sure I'll get used to it as the semester goes on. I learned a new word today, at least. Apparently babysitters are called canguros (kangaroos) in some Spanish-speaking countries. Get it, the pouch? I found that interesting.

[livejournal.com profile] charmwitch, do you call buses guagua down there? My teacher mentioned Puerto Rico was one area that does. I know in some other countries guagua = baby, and we read this little comic where some guys were confused as to why they would wait at a bus stop for a baby xD
slimequest: (Dragons are over-rated)
I can't decide whether the fact that studying for my Japanese final consisted of me flipping through the book 15 minutes before the test began, and yet I most likely totally aced it, is awesome or just plain reckless. Kind of both, I guess.

But I didn't want to study, having to go and take a test on my birthday of all days kind of sucks ass to begin with, but at least it was easy enough. There were actually parts where we were supposed to answer in English but I forgot and wrote it in Japanese anyway. It actually seemed easier to me to do it that way, because I was in the Japanese frame of mind at the time.

We celebrated my birthday yesterday because of the test and various other reason, and it was pretty darn awesome. Of course, having a girlfriend ([livejournal.com profile] krile) who makes herself extra gorgeous for you AND knows just what games to give you on your special day pretty much guarantees this. She may or may not end up finishing her shounen-ai fanfics on the same day, too, but... that's a.. bonus? If she didn't do such a good job distracting me with awesomeness I might have given it a second thought.

I'll probably dump some of the things I got into my Christmas post or something, but for most of the day I was playing Rocket Slime. This game is... I'm tearing up, here. It's orgasmic. Let me put it to you this way: I was laughing for a good five minutes over the fact that one of the enemy tanks, which is a giant tree, is named Chrono Twigger. The Square-Enix merger was done for this exact moment, I'm sure of it.

I also got Castlevaina: Portrait of Ruin which seems to continue the 2D-Symphony-of-the-Night-clone tradition of being great, while having some interesting new gameplay. Our protagonists enter a strange castle where they have to jump into paintings and... collect all the stars... defeat Bowser... the princess bakes you a cake? Wait...

Speaking of cake, because the DS's clock read it as my birthday, the shop in the game can sell you a birthday cake. For 3000 dollars. Was it baked with melted-down PS3s instead of chocolate?

It's also interesting to note that the startup noise for the DS is different on your birthday, and if you enter Pictochat it tells everyone that it's your birthday. Pretty neat stuff.

The other games I got that I've actually played are We ♥ Katamari, which is of course fun and only slightly gay, and Okami, which is one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen, and it's got good gameplay, too! I can't help but wonder why this game was developed for the PS2 since the DS or Wii would probably make better use of the "drawing" thing, but it doesn't detract from the game, it's just a thought.

I think I will go play some of those games now, and enjoy the fact that school is finally over for me for the time being :D
slimequest: (Arc teh Lad!)
I was gone all week from our house, we had to house-sit at [livejournal.com profile] krile's mom's house while she was out of town. During this time, I ordered the newest Arc the Lad game to have something to do over there! So I'll do a mini-review.

Reviewness )

Besides that, I've decided to just study up on Spanish on my own instead of taking an unneccesary class for it. Saves me money, plus this way I can start filling out the paperwork for the Spring semester now instead of stressing over it at the last minute :3 I'm really not that out of practise except for things like verb conjugation and things like that, anyway.

Okay, this post took me like 2 hours to type because work suddenly decided to be busy, so I'll cut things short here :o. I still need to get that picture of Bocchan off my cell phone and upload it, if I could only find the cable xD; *runs back to the desk*
