GOTTA LOVE NATURE

So... I've been playing various games lately. This is the most obvious statement in the world, but still, here it is in my post.
Anyway, I've been messing around with and appreciating my new Xbox 360. I've never owned any sort of Xbox before so it's basically my shiny new toy to go discover new things about. So far, I'm impressed. The system itself has a lot of fun, interesting things going for it, most of which involve Xbox Live. Achievements seem more fun to collect than trophies, and the 360's avatars are the best combination of cuteness from Miis and customization choices from Playstation Home.
Media capability-wise, both the 360 and PS3 can play basically the same stuff, with the PS3 having the obvious addition of Blu-Ray. But either one can handle the various downloaded videos I put on them, not to mention regular old DVDs. Conveniently both of them can agree that they WON'T play certain oddly-formatted .avi files and such, so... that's... good?
One of the biggest fun aspects is being able to keep track of friends via Xbox Live, whether it be on your 360 itself (whether you're in a game or not) or on xbox.com. Essentially it lets you stalk which games they've been playing and what they're up to, but it's a fun, playful kind of stalking. The whole ability to message and voice chat while in a game seems to be better implimented on the 360 than the PS3, not to mention the 360 having Windows Messenger capabilities.
So, yeah, the 360 is neat. I mostly wanted one for the various RPGs that are exclusive to the console, plus unfortunately it tends to be that multi-console games are developed for the 360 first and then ported to PS3, which leads to the 360 version being techincally superior in a few ways. I can't possibly risk Bayonetta being slightly less sexy, for example, so I'll be getting the 360 version.
Oh yeah, and you can install almost every game to the HDD which reduces load times/wear on the console, and you can actually change your gamertag if you really wanted to, so... a couple of more nice features to add to the list.
Actual game-wise, I'm playing and loving the shit out of Blue Dragon. I know I'm a couple of years late to the party, but this game is basically every 16 bit RPG put into a blender and coated with an HD glaze. And I consider this glazed mush to be a wonderful, wonderful thing. Listening to a new Uematsu soundtrack is kind of bizarre, especially when it's not an FF game and when it LOOKS like it's supposed to be scored by Sugiyama, but again, no complaints here about the bizarre goodness.
But, of course, I wouldn't neglect my other consoles, so...
VALKYRIA CHRONICLES HAS AIKA, VYSE, AND FINA FROM SKIES OF ARCADIA IN IT okay, so do I need to say any more? But seriously it's a really fun strategy RPG where instead of moving a sprite on a grid, you run around as the person and shoot things and stuff and... basically this is the JRPG version of Modern Warfare 2 or something. It's also the kind of game that has dozens of playable characters all with their own quirks, kind of like Suikoden. But yeah, definitely a great PS3 game to pick up if you have one! Also there's an anime based on it and a sequel coming out for PSP, so now's as good a time as any to check it out.
Also: New Super Mario Bros. Wii is awesome, Wild Arms XF is fun, and this is the first Christmas in probably... 9 years or so, that I haven't gotten a PS2 game for Christmas. Of course, I basically own them all already, so it's kind of cheating.

Date: 2010-01-14 04:17 am (UTC)-- Ar Tonelico 3 will most likely be taking it's place after it's release however. And if NISA loves their American fans enough to release it in English.

Date: 2010-01-29 03:45 am (UTC)I'm looking forward to more PS3 RPGs, just because it's nice to be able to play more games on it. Seriously, before this I barely used it for its "real" purpose and just played PS1 and PS2 games on it xD;
