slimequest: (Freckle Fantasy)

The past couple of weeks have been kind of odd. [livejournal.com profile] krile was on vacation for a while, so I took this opportunity (as I always do) to play games into ridiculous hours of the morning, in my underwear, slightly buzzed from the sweet nectar that is root beer.

I mean, I do all that stuff when she's around anyway, but it's somehow different. I mostly played Metal Gear Online and Riviera: The Promised Land (PSP version).

MGO came out with an expansion pack that, among other things, lets you create female characters. Of course I did so, because the guy characters are mostly hideous, and I have to say that I am treated differently when playing as a girl. I never got "a/s/l????" questions when playing as my male character, if I did well on a round I got teabagged/gangbanged afterwards, and some guy kept lamenting after he killed me once "oh god i can't believe i killed a girl".

So, ladies, let me just say that I think I understand you all a bit more after this. Being a woman is tough. Especially when grenades are involved.

And yes, I've still not beat Riviera. See, I got quite far in the GBA version, then I got sidetracked, then the PSP version was announced, so I waited for that to come out. But I'm having fun with it, despite the fact that seeing the bath scenes in the PSP version is way harder than on the GBA. Seriously, it takes a lot of skill to make Ein do heterosexual things. BUT I WILL SEE THEM ALL, POKEMON.

These games are just me distracting myself from going insane over not being able to play Final Fantasy IV DS, because Krile has stolen it and kept it all to herself until she beats it. Or so she says. Being subjected to hearing how AWESOME it is and hearing the familiar music all the time is driving me insane with jealousy.

We also both went to Connecticon, our local anime/video game/nobody cares about your tabletop RPGs convention. It was amusing as always, and there were some actual GOOD cosplayers, like this really hot Misa Misa who had L handcuffed to her <3 But, there were, as always, bad ones.

There was a Zell cosplayer. He was sitting at a table near the snack stand where they sold nachos, hot dogs, etc. And what was on his plate? Pizza. ZELL was eating PIZZA when they had hot dogs for sale. I'm sorry but you have to be IN CHARACTER always. You even have to go to the bathroom the way you think your character would, because dammit I payed money to see your sorry ass walking around.

Well it's good know someone gets it at least :P

I really don't get it why some guys find so hard to believe you're a girl and play mmorpgs....and the next thing guys start thinking you must be super hot just because you're avatar's polygons were placed in all the right places >_>;

A lot of people online seem to think I'm a girl for some reason, I'm not sure why XD;;; But yeah, video games are still seen as a boy's thing despite the fact that there are more gamer girls than ever nowadays, and there always have been.

I suppose the guys thinking you're super hot is not the worst thing in the world, but it's not really the kind of attention you're looking for I'm sure xD More than anything it seems like guys expect girls who are playing online to "prove" they're a girl with pics or something, whereas no one questions the fact that they're male.

XD maybe you've been hanging around us girl gamers for too long *snickers* But yeah if you say you're a guy they probably won't question you.

Btw, the answer to your question is easy: The last boss would be Frank.

I probably have been hanging around girls too much, but I can't resist! xD

Frank would be a good last boss, it makes the most sense. He can have angst attacks and spam your comments page! But if you beat him he bans you from LJ.

To be honest, I'm more alarmed that there aren't more girls playing Metal Gear games. They're the girliest games ever. I mean, you play a character whose superpower is that he has a great butt and is always talking to his best friend over the phone. You'd think 'girl' would be the default by now.

I know, totally. Not to mention the obvious slash undertones that even I can see by now. These have been games made for girls all along! The fanboys will never admit to it.

NO

NO

GIRLS WON'T TOUCH GAMES WITH GUNS IN

THEY ONLY LIKE COOKING MAMA AND ANIMAL CROSSING

Seriously, there's a book that my local games place is trying to flog, which has a bright pink cover and is called 'The Girl's Guide to Gaming'. On the cover it says it has all the inside on Nintendogs, Cooking Mama, Animal Crossing, The Sims 2...

It's attitudes like that which make it so hard to find decent fanservice.

As a direct consequence of so little fanservice for females in games, they have counterattacked by taking over the entire online fandom, with the exception of a token few males allowed to stay around to be used for nefarious purposes. It's like one of those planets of the Amazons or something.

It's unusual, but 'fandom' as I understand it only seems to exist when nearly everyone in it is female. The male-dominated fandoms don't stay active (which is bad) but also don't have huge amounts of shipwars (which is probably good enough to make up for it). Male fandoms also seem to be geared more towards making/getting more of the source material, wheras female fandoms are more about warping the source material for their own purposes. I'm not sure if that says more about men and women, or what women do when they don't think they're being watched.

Yeah, guys just don't care as much. Instead of shipping wars, it's "who do you think is the hottest girl" threads. And those are nowhere near close to shipping wars, there are some disagreements sometimes, but in the end the guys just care about their hot girl and go back to playing the actual game. That's another difference I think, guys are more interested in the game (or anime, or whatever) itself instead of going online to talk about it. So that's why male-dominated fandoms aren't so active, they're too busy experiencing the source material. Guys pride themselves on knowing the facts about a game, girls like to blur lines and come up with things that fit their own shipping agendas while trying to justify them with facts.

I know for a fact that females act more obsessive and downright naughty when they're around other girls but not any guys, which pretty much explains the entire fandom's tendency to go smutty. I actually think that's kind of awesome, and cute in a weird way.

You're just saying this so no one will think you're a girl anymore. But we all know by "underwear" you mean "frilly nightie", so you ain't foolin' no one. :p

If everyone knew we had girly video game slumber parties together every night they would be so jealous that we'd be cast out of the internet.

By the way, what color do you want your toenails painted tonight?
