Because we were feeling suicidal last night (OUR AIR CONDITIONER DOES NOT WORK, this is sucky), we popped in FFX-2.

I really, just had no idea.

I mean it's so obviously pandering to the lowest common denominator, and it's so bad, yet... the battles are kind of fun and the dressphere thing is an interesting ability system.

And is it just me or can NO ONE stay still in this game? Everyone is dancing in place, even if there's no music playing.

But, yeah, it's actually kind of fun to play, which makes me ashamed. It's like... finding yourself tapping your feet along to a Britney Spears song or something. You KNOW you shouldn't be doing it, it's so wrong, and yet here you are. Or like, finding a perfectly good sandwich in the middle of a trash heap. There are a million reasons why you should just leave it there, but hey, this is a pretty darn good sandwich all things considered.

Even with all its horrible flaws, it has probably the slickest battle system of all the Effeffs, in my opinion. And I do like Paine, even if her backstory is very lacking.

I don't think it'd bother me as much if the original X was happy-bunny-fluffy-love-shoujo as well. It's just, if you had to pin a mood on X, it would be tragedy - yay, look, here's this beautiful sparkly clever quiet lovable girl who's walking off to her d00m and you, as the main character, have been the one telling her all about how much fun you're gonna have with her after you beat Sin, because you had no idea. Even in the happy moments of that game, there was the overwhelming feeling of transience and smiling through tears.

X-2, however, is SPARKLYSHOUJO-ON-A-STICK. It's so bouncy, so happy, so OMG YUNIE U R TEH KEWLIST. It just doesn't fit.

Although, I have to say, Yuna/Rikku/Paine OT3.

Yeah, that's probably the thing that is the most jarring - FFX was pretty somber throughout, and this game is totally different. I guess they wanted to lighten up for this game. Yuna is trying DESPERATELY to be all emo and serious but that lasts about three seconds, then everyone BOUNCES UP AND DOWN AND GIGGLES AND DANCES.

Also Brother SERIOUSLY just needs to STOP. Stop breathing. He looks hideous and does not need to be jumping around trying to hump Yuna.

FFX-2 was where we made the big slide into the Complication Of Thungammy Infinate Umpteen rut.

I didn't mind Brother - we didn't see enough of his character to really be irritated by Mr. Interpretive Dance. And it was fun stepping on his head with Yuna's pointy boots when he got wounded and was lying on the floor moaning.

Now, Rikku, on the other hand. Ohgod Rikku. Where did you make the transition from 'I'll smile because that's easier, no matter what I'm really feeling' and 'don't leave us, Yuna, please!' to 'OMG YUNIE U R 2 KEWL!!11123456678899'

So you're saying Brother won't be checking up on us constantly for the whole game? It seems like that's what he does now. While staring down Yuna's shirt.

Also Rikku's vocabulary now includes the word "poopie", which I'm ever so pleased with. Her being perky is no shock, even if she's overdoing it a bit. I just wish she would CHANGE HER HAIR BACK I have her as a Black Mage now just so I don't have to see it~

BTW did I mention that how Yuna has Tidus's sword and stance and.. everything while in the Warrior class made me throw up in my mouth a little? Cuz like, it did xD
