Went and saw the Final Fantasy Dear Friends concert tonight. It was fun. Here are some of the highlights:
- Spotted Aeris and Sephiroth cosplayers minutes after arriving there. BIG SURPRISE. But I was pleased to see Terra and Locke cosplayers too, thank you olskool fans.
- The music itself was interesting to hear live, even though I'd heard orchestrated versions of the songs before. They played some FMVs up on the big screen during some songs. The crowd was really into it. There were even some old people there (guessing they had season passes and just went to the place whenever they played something) but even they enjoyed it.
- Someone shouted AERIS DIES right before they began playing Aeris's theme. Made my night.
- I was surprised at the amount of cheering Terra's theme got. There were a lot of fans of the older FFs there which made me feel good < 3 It was funny though because during the FF I-III medly the crowd cheered at the Chocobo theme because I'm sure nobody had heard any of the music besides that and were glad to hear something familiar xD
- They played some song from FF7 Advent Children and everyone was like "what" since obviously no one had heard it before or recognized it. It was an interesting song anyway, but still, way to go.
- Nobuo Uematsu wasn't even THERE which sucked because if he was I could've gotten backstage passes and met him through some connections. Oh well.
- As a surprise encore they played One Winged Angel. Instantly, a thousand fanboys and fangirls came all at once. I shook my head and laughed, what else could I do.
But yeah, it was really fun and I think if this is successful they'll hopefully bring it to more places. I'd reccomend it to Final Fantasy fans to go see, but if you haven't played anything pre-FF7 you won't recognize half of the music. It's really more of a celebration of the music from the WHOLE series and for the fans who have been there a long time.
It was something unusual to go do on date night, anyway ;D
