Square-Enix has just released an iPod game called Song Summoner, in which you create warriors from the songs on your iPod and use them to battle evil.
No, seriously.
It's got to be one of the most unique ideas I've seen for a game in a long while, so if anything you have to give them credit for that. The graphics aren't bad considering it's an iPod game, either. I'm not sure how using the click-wheel to control it would be, but I assume the controls are simplified enough to make it work.
Apparently the characters are generated... somehow, based on individual songs, and certain song titles might be given bonuses depending on the day. If you listen to the songs that your characters were made from in between playing, they get stronger.
The game's a strategy RPG but I doubt it's either going to be too complicated or difficult being on the platform that it is. It's being sold via the iTunes store (obviously), and works on any of the semi-modern video iPods. At this time I guess iPod Touches and iPhones aren't compatible, but maybe they'll release it for those in the future.
The game sounds... strangely interesting, if only to see what MAGICAL MUSICAL WARRIORS live inside your favorite songs. At least it's not another cellphone game that we'll never get to play, ever.
