Three Dee Ess
Sep. 29th, 2010 04:35 pmOkay, so there's been a lot of really interesting info released about the 3DS. A lot of it sounds exciting and all that, but I think I'll actually wait until the inevitable hardware revision before jumping on board.
The reasons being, I have about a bajillion PSP and DS games of this current gen I still have yet to play, to start off with. I also foresee both of these platforms being supported for a long while after their successors come out, so I have no major reason to upgrade unless a ~*~MUST HAVE~*~ game is announced.
So far, Megaman Legends 3 stands out in my mind as a game I'd like to get my hands on, but a vast majority of the other games are like... PS2 ports? I'm sure the 3D effect will make these games novel to play again, but I'm really less than thrilled about Tales of the Abyss getting a port, for example. MGS3's a bit more interesting, only because the 3D effect sounds a lot more innovative in that kind of game than an RPG.
The Gameboy Virtual Console deal is something that's been long overdue, I could've seen than implemented with the DSi. It's more exciting to me than all those ports and some vague "[game series] - 3DS!" announcement which means basically nothing.
By the way, yes, this DOES render the DSi completely pointless to own, since the 3DS is compatible with DSiWare. I own a Japanese one which doesn't have access to the U.S. DSiWare, so that's a slight bonus to upgrading, for me.
Also, the design is just a little chunky and reminds me of the first DS model, slightly. And you just know the "lite" or whatever is going to be significantly better, so I think I can hold off for now. Unless a limited edition of some obscure RPG series comes out, in which case, I might very well bite. I do like the color of the blue 3DS, though.
And no, people will NEVER stop complaining about lack of a 2nd analog... thing. You'd think the fact that people have never stopped complaining about the PSP's lack of this feature would be a lesson, but...
