I don't think any "cliffhanger" games have ever really delivered on the second or third parts to them. It's basically torturing your audience on purpose, and even the most BDSM-loving gamers hate it, I'm sure.

Anyway, it just struck me as odd that XI was even a numbered FF to begin with, which goes along with my beef of XIV's numbering. It's just SO different that I think a distinction needs to be made. The amount of time needed to invest in it to get any kind of progress/storyline made, plus the fact that after a point you HAD to have a party to progress, among other reasons.

The other thing is, FFXI will eventually, one day, go offline (probably), meaning I won't be able to pick it up off the shelf and play it as I would any of the other games in the series. I'm sure the name "Final Fantasy Online" or something like that was available, and after XII came out it seems kind of odd that the "previous" game would still be getting updates and expansions. Not so much if the game made itself separate from the main series.

I can't comment on the storyline of XI much since I barely got any of it in my 2 1/2 months of off-and-on playing of it. IS there actually an "end" with credits and storyline resolution and stuff? If so I stand corrected, but... still, I have no idea how much time you'd have to invest in order to get that far. Compared to a 50-ish hour standard RPG, I just can't see how many average RPG/FF fans would ever get that far, which is another reason why I think it should've not been numbered. The amount of people who will say "yeah I played and beat them all except that online one" is probably pretty significant.

Aaaaanway... I'm willing to give XIV a chance, for sure. For all I know it's completely different from XI, and perhaps most importantly (to me), it might have an offline mode, so that one COULD play it as they would the other FF games. My estimate of how long I'll give it a shot might be off, but I do want to give it a fair chance, since I have no desire for it to suck/fail/not impress me, at all. But assuming it's a completely online FF, to me it'll end up making all the same "mistakes" (to me, a person who doesn't really like MMORPGs and would prefer it to not be numbered either out of stubbornness or OCD or something) as XI, which is why I'm bitching xD
