Angst? What do you think this is, Livejour... oh

I understand an LJ's real, original purpose is a medium to angst through, but I've just never been the type to do so. It's just NOT. MY. STYLE.

But, anyway, lots of crappy things have been happening to me lately! And the cherry on top is the fact that the top screen of my beloved DS Lite is not working. So not only can I neither play Pokémon Platinum NOR Dragon Quest V, but I now have the wonderful dilemma of "do I buy another DS or do I eat". Maybe it's not actually that dire but it still sucks! $75 to fix the screen via Nintendo or I could put that money towards a DSi or something... not that I was terribly interested in the first place but now I have a reason to consider it. Plus, that blue one looks nifty.

I mean, the worst part is that my original Gameboy still freaking works, but my DS Lite has failed me. I BOUGHT A VIRTUAL BOY, NINTENDO, WHERE IS THE JUSTICE IN THIS WORLD.

Okay, so that was my angst... the majority of which was over video games. At least I'm consistent.

Technology may be better, but they're using cheaper materials to make them. It sucks, but it's true. I still think my current five year old laptop outruns a lot of newly built ones.

Did you try out your games on my original DS?

It's also much more complex technology, meaning there's a lot more that can go wrong (and when it does, it costs more to fix it...)

I know my games will all run fine on your original DS, but my poor eyes! I do appreciate the offer, but I might stick to PSP games for now, or finish up some lagging GBA ones...

Ooh! Ooh! Play some GBA ones! :D Like... Swordcraft Story 2! And laugh at Max's new "voice" in Shining Force! And um... play those other games! Yeah!

I was juggling FFV's bonus dungeon, finishing FFVI, and playing Swordcraft Story 2 last time I checked, so there's plenty to go around. I'd also like to play Shining Force of course. (that rhymes)

Oh no, it's perfectly acceptable to angst over non-functional consoles.

*Consoles, pun fully intended*

I appreciate it, the pun actually helps more xD

Man, sorry to hear about that. Here's my $0.02, though.

If you think about it, if $75 is what Nintendo quoted you on simply fixing your DS Lite, you're only a little more than $50 away from the purchase of another brand new Lite, and about $100 away from a DSi. I imagine the first batch of them might be a tad difficult to procure in stores, but if you're willing to give your PS2 some love in the meantime, maybe it would be a good opportunity to upgrade to the next level of DS-ness?

And it's perfectly okay to angst over your consoles. I guarantee you there's almost always *something* wrong with every single one of mine. The Saturn's internal RAM needs to be replaced, the Duo's redbook audio doesn't work right, the Dreamcast's CD module stops spinning half-way through a game, and the list goes on. Way on.

Yeah, I was basically planning on upgrading to a DSi, since paying $75 for repairs seems like money down the drain to me. (it's money down the drain either way, actually, but one way is much more satisfying than the other)

I always show my PS2 games love... because I have a mountain of them, so statistically speaking I'll end up playing one before too long, on average.

I guess I should count my blessings, since your consoles seem much worse off than mine! I guess it hits me a bit hard since I've never really had much trouble with mine... my NES famously blinks until I clean it just right and my SNES has turned a lovely shade of greyish-yellow, but nothing major. Our Saturn's internal RAM erased saves so we got the RAM expansion cartridge thing, which works fine for now.

Oh noes!! :(

Personally, I would choose a new DS over food. Maybe a used DS fromm Craiglist to tide you over and live on Ramen?

You're right, I have my priorities all out of whack... Cup o' Noodle, here I come! xD

Actually, I can borrow Krile's old-style DS for the time being. It works fine... although it's pink. But I can handle it, it'll make games more challenging maybe...?
