Backlog Warz

Okay so Amazon.com had Advance Wars: Days of Ruin as their deal of the day last week, for some absurdly low amount of money, so I went ahead and got it. It was sort of low on my radar of games I'd like to try but I really couldn't pass this up, especially considering it was cheaper than a greatest hits title.

And hey SPOILERS it's fun. I've only played the first GBA Advance Wars game for like 5 minutes prior to this, but I actually like the fact that it's a strategy game but NOT a strategy RPG. I have about a million of those to play if I so desired, so this is a nice change.

The gameplay is the highlight, obviously, although WACKY TACTICAL TIPS SHOW which includes bosses walking in and giving you advice for some reason, and the female characters trying on makeup and threatening to dye the male lead's hair until he runs away. So yeah, good times!

ANYWAY, despite the fact that this should get in the way of me playing other various games I need to beat, it hasn't!

Wild Arms 3: BAM BAM BAM the dungeons fall left and right! I am pretty close to the end now, I think.

I've also been playing FES whenever I can, although it being on HARD MODE makes me die every so often and this is not good. But, Elizabeth dating sequences are the best things ever so I persevere!

Despite all this gaming, I have my Japanese oral final on Tuesday and the written final the next week, joy! And something about Spanish, it's easy peasy stuff really. But seriously, I want to strangle whoever invented the subjunctive tense. PORQUEEEEEE~~~

And now, I think I'll finish up this battle in Advance Wars and get some studying done, if the kind customers at my job will permit it.

From what I understand, the American and European branches of Nintendo both translate the Advance Wars games directly from Japanese separately, so you end up getting two different interpretations. It would be pretty interesting to compare the two.

Also, Jet... takes some getting used to. Actually, you'll probably never "like" him, he's just kind of a running gag of "meeh I hate everyone I HAVE NO MEMORIES WAAH", so if you take him like that he can be amusing. I renamed him "Jetty", this helps me cope. He also ends up getting a tool called "RADICAL SNEAKERS" which is awesome in an early-90s kind of a way. I pretend they're the kind that light up when you walk.

When I first started playing Wild Arms games the music was like "what the fuck old west whistling what the fuck" to me, but it's actually grown on me quite a bit. Michiko Naruke is now one of my favorite composers. That damned whistling ends up getting stuck in your head after a while, believe me.

If you feel like trying to pick the game up again, at least over here it's absurdly cheap - like 8 bucks or so.

I think Jet was meant to be a parody of the JRPG protagonist who hates everyone and has no memories, especially since the game had a character like Clive in it (who actually had a working and alive family which I don't remember dying during the game, which is about as likely in an RPG as winning the lottery).

I might pick it up again.

Jet certainly fits the bill as a parody of that stereotype, too true. At least no one really seems to take him seriously in the game. They just kind of shrug it off and go THAT'S OUR JET, HAHAHA while he sulks in the corner.

Clive having a real, alive family is probably the most bizarre thing ever, I think when the others found out, none of them believed him at first. Because seriously how often does THAT happen in RPGs. Virginia having a father is also pretty amazing in itself, too.

Jet actually has some Cloud-related issues. *nod*
